THE SPEECH OF THE GLOBAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OGBOMOSO OLD STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION (FEGOCOOSA)

TO BE DELIVERED AT THE 2026 SPEECH AND PRIZE GIVING DAY HELD TODAY, SATURDAY 18TH OF JULY 2026

On this occasion of our Annual Prize Giving Day 2026, it is with a mixture of pride in the achievements of our students and a heavy heart that we celebrate with you today.

We deeply regret the absence of any Global Executive Member of FEGOCOOSA, as well as the usual significant number of prominent Old Students, at this year's ceremony. This absence is due to a grave and ongoing situation that has cast a sombre mood over our entire FEGOCOOSA family.

As the school's management is already aware, our Acting Global President, Chief Ucheoma Amechi (of the 1985 Set), was abducted approximately eight weeks ago. Despite the payment of ransom, he has not yet regained his freedom.

Since that day, FEGOCOOSA as a body has been united in prayer and concern, steadfastly hoping for his eventual safe return to us all and to his loving family. Our thoughts and prayers remain with him and his loved ones at this difficult
time.

In view of these extraordinary and distressing circumstances, we were unable to rally our members to provide the level of support we traditionally bring to this important day. However, please accept our sincere commitment to the continued development of our beloved alma mater and to the mentorship of the coming generations. This commitment remains unshaken, and we look forward to restoring and even expanding our engagement with the school as soon as the current crisis allows.

Though our presence is diminished this year, our spirit of support is not. As a token of our enduring dedication to the students of Federal Government College Ogbomosho, we are pleased to present 15 prizes for deserving students. We hope these awards serve as a reminder that, even in challenging times, FEGOCOOSA stands with the school and celebrates the bright future represented by its students.

Thank you very much for your understanding during this difficult period. We pray that brighter days lie ahead, and that we may soon gather again in full celebration.

IMPORTANTLY: A list will be passed round to all Graduands. Do ensure you put down your details ahead of your formal induction into the Alumni body during the course of this event.
